Bring the backup history
Repeated backups, several affected fixtures and earlier clearing attempts are useful starting facts. Keep inspection recordings and written findings if available. Stop using affected fixtures when wastewater is returning indoors; avoid contact and describe the situation when calling.
Ask what the inspection will establish
Confirm the inspection entry point, accessible length and whether the recording is supplied. Ask the business to explain any proposed repair using its findings. A clearing restores flow; it is not itself evidence that a damaged pipe has been repaired.
Compare the repair boundary
Locate the proposed work relative to the home, property boundary and utility connection. Discuss permits, access, excavation, surface restoration and testing. Ask what could change after inspection and who approves it. Public-main work and private-line work must not be treated as the same scope.
Find the private-lateral boundary
Identify the wastewater supplier for the address, then ask which segment belongs to the property owner and which belongs to the utility. Ask whether inspection information or private-lateral guidance is available; do not assume a repair program applies. Have any available inspection recording, prior repair notes and access information ready. A postal ZIP does not settle the boundary, and a camera observation alone does not authorize excavation.
Before calling, distinguish one-fixture symptoms from a shared drainage problem and describe what you observed.
Questions to ask about sewer-line inspection & repair
- Can I receive the recording and written finding?
- Which section is private responsibility?
- What restoration and permits are included?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the independent business and actual property. Compare the supplied scopes and exclusions before choosing.
